Sundae

So yesterday was Sunday (in case you weren't aware) and it was mildly eventful. Morning meeting was wonderful and at breaktime we celebrated Carolina y Daniel's high school graduation. There was a very fitting verse on the cake:

"that the Lord your God may show us the way we should go, and the thing that we should do"
- Jeremiah 42:3

For lunch, Eleo took all the young people out for pizza... here's a pic of the gals!

In the afternoon Madeleine and I had a fabulous siesta which was really needed as I took care of this little active munchkin during meeting.

After meeting we said goodbye to Christia who is going up to the San Diego for about a month and Isaac is heading up to Canada on Tuesday to work. The Mexi-Cains and I then went out for supper for Mexican hotdogs again... there's nothing quite like it *sigh*

Since Tim is up North for a bit, today Miss Kyla and Vivianne Woodford have come for a visit. Here's miss chef herself. So far I've been served a glass of water... hopefully something a little more substantial will come soon ;)

Well with 41 degree weather and sandwiches made for the whole crew, we set out to a big park on the other side of Hermosillo with those that could make it from the Hall. There was lots to do: skateboard park, soccer/basket ball court, playground, shaded bleacher... You can guess where I hung out ;) All in all it was really fun though. More people came as the day went on and I don't think I got too burnt! Tomorrow is Sunday :) I love being able to hear men so newly saved rise to their feet and humbly thank their Lord *sigh* wish you were here to experience it too :)

Almejas Frescas

Let me explain...

Yesterday we walked past this stand that sold fresh clams and coconuts. Well the arrangement of the bright lime green limons on the clam shells looked pretty neat so on the way back Mad and I decided to stop by and take a picture. Well wouldn't you know it the people running it spoke very good English, one lady in particular and she asked if I wanted to try one. Well I love all seafood, especially clams... when they're fried. This was different. She proceeded to tell me that it's just like taking a shot... "Lady, I've never done a shot!" She tried to comfort me by saying she would make it up just for me. She began to squirt a bunch of limon juice and salt and even began the Salsa Huichol (hot sauce) before I warned her I'm not too good with spice (eek). Then she places it in my hand. "What have I gotten myself in to?!" Other times in Mexico I have tried some *ahem* different things... intestines, termites, brain... but this was the hardest. My biggest fear was that I was going to drink that thing and it was not going down... it was big! Well it took me a while and some patience from Mad holding the camera, but I did 'er and ya know... it really wasn't that bad! Mind you it took a bit for the clam to come out at first but the gal was right and it just slid right down ;)
Well now that's one thing off the list: "Eat something gross in Mexico"

While I was weighing this all up, another lady was ordering a coconut FULL of clams... "uh, maybe next time" ;)

Cochorit

Soon after breakfast today we headed out on an hour and a half trek to Cochorit. It's a beach just outside of Empalme. I had already been to San Carlos which is on the other side of the bay, but this was a great beach. The weather was a bit cooler (~30) than in Hermosillo and the wind was up, but there was no stopping my splotchy burn (and yes mom I did apply sunscreen more than once).

Alison and I both ordered my favourite (fried fish) while the rest had shrimp ceviche, diablo and garlic... yum!

Us gals all went swimming and it was perfect. I couldn't believe the temperature of the water! Like, really. Never again will I call Cassidy lake as warm as bath water, cause it just isn't true. Sammy kept himself busy with skimboarding and leaping over anything he could find... hayyyyyyyyyyyyya!

While Alison read a book, the rest of us went for a walk along the beach in search of a lagoon that we were told about, with no success :( However, there was a dead eel we poked "ask the biologist" (if I hear that one more time...) and lots of shells to collect.

On our way home, we stopped at an Oxxo (typical) and noticed Mexico's very own KFC ;)

Chim, chim cher-ee

Was feeling that we needed a new face to CTC, so out with the owls and in with las flores!

No post the other day due to technology being on the fritz from el presidente Felipe Calderon flying in to Hermosillo to go to Guymas for Marine Day in Mexico. Crazy.

Not too much new though, although Evelyn is now officially all done all her school subjects except for Science. She only has one chapter about weather left though... wahoo!!! Oh and Eleonor Mosquera arrived back today from Veracruz. Yay! Someone else who speaks English! ;)

After the gospel meeting in Tirocapes (south side of the city), we had a snack at DQ...


Today we made yummy chimichangas:

1. Do up some mashed taters n' onions

2. Add some ground beef and spice to the onions

3. Find a massively huge tortilla (good luck with that one!)

4. Once she's good n' cooled off, add some of the meat mixture to the tortilla and roll 'er up kind of like a wrap at Subway

5. Place them in a hot, oiled fryin' pan. Flip once.

6. Serve hot with as many Mexican condiments you can find... especially guac and crema. Oh! and don't forget to enjoy with friends (most important ingredient)And there's my atempt at the pioneer woman-ing. (If you haven't already checked her out... do it!) Now I'm off to get some beauty sleep before la playa en la manana! Next pic you see of me I'm sure to be a lobster... Maritimes-Represent ;)
